Description: The film starts with HMS Monmouth, sunk in the Battle of Coronel on 1st November 1914, shown in harbour before the war. In fact the ship so described is HMS Donegal, sister to the Monmouth. This is followed by HMS Good Hope, sunk in the same battle, also at anchor before the war, and again the actual ship shown is HMS King Alfred, its sister ship. Finally the cruiser HMS Hogue, sunk in the North Sea by a U-boat, 2nd September, again at anchor before the war - this actually is the Hogue. (Identifications are made by means of the pattern of white bands around the funnels of British ships in peacetime.)
Newsreel item on British warships sunk in autumn 1914 (including some fakes).
